I had the pleasure of attending the fantastic book launch for *Charlie Horse* by Kendra James. All proceeds from the sale of *Charlie Horse* will support HorsePlay’s mission to provide hippotherapy, a transformative therapeutic practice using horseback riding. Kendra and I met at HorsePower in Conway, where the HorsePlay sessions take place. You can view some photos and videos from our visit here.
Kendra, a former teacher certified for grades 4-8 with a master’s degree in education, has embraced her passion for storytelling as a children’s book author. *Charlie Horse* features a playful and curious horse named Charlie, who meets friends like a wise frog, a silly pig, and a brave little girl, each teaching her valuable lessons about friendship and embracing uniqueness. Inspired by Kendra’s daughter Ally and her experiences with hippotherapy, this heartwarming tale encourages children to celebrate their individuality.
With whimsical illustrations by Karina Syevalnyeva and engaging rhymes, *Charlie Horse* is perfect for kids ages 3-8. You can order a book or make a donation on Kendra’s website, and the books are also available on Amazon. Additionally, HorsePlay is raising funds through t-shirt sales, with September 30th as the last day to order.
HorsePlay is operated by Erica and Justin Kennemer, who lead a skilled, dedicated, and kind staff, including Sarah Branscum, who was leading the therapy during my visit. You can learn more about HorsePlay in their recent interview on the Vine or by visiting their website. If you love horses and want to contribute, HorsePlay is looking for volunteers. You can sign up using this form.
